Creative Movement

Creative movement provides a fun opportunity for younger students to explore their developing sense of movement and music. Students are introduced to the classroom environment where they learn elements of ballet while engaging in improvisation and imaginative exercises. Social skills are developed as students practice taking turns, following instructions and working in small groups.

Creative Movement I is for students ages 3-4. They attend one 30-minute class per week.

Creative Movement II is for students ages 4-6. They attend one 45-minute class per week.

Ballet

Ballet is a classical concert dance which is used to express stories, emotions and ideas. Dancers are known for their grace, poise and precision; qualities developed by the study of ballet. Ballet technique provides the foundation for most Western and some Eastern dance forms, therefore careful study of ballet is important to all aspiring dancers.

Beginning students learn and practice basic techniques in the traditional classroom format of barre and center work.

Intermediate students will develop a firm understanding of ballet language and technique while gaining life skills and confidence. Progressively more advanced concepts are introduced and older students may begin preparation for work en pointe.

Advanced students will fully pursue their technical and artistic potential. Technique and terminology continue to be developed while students explore the relationship between movement and expression.

Open Ballet is offered for teenage and adult dancers of all levels. These classes provide an easy "drop-in" structure through our class cards. Classes are designed to focus on enjoyment and fulfillment of the dancer’s individual goals.

Modern

Modern is a contemporary concert dance form which modifies and sometimes works counter to ballet technique. It provides an opportunity for dancers to express themselves through varied and diverse movements that reject some of the structures of the classical vocabulary. Emphasis is put on natural movement and the use of weight to create unique shapes. Improvisation and collaboration are also integral skills developed in the study of modern dance. Modern is frequently danced in bare feet. Ballet is required to participate in our modern classes.
